Something for everyone
Here, you can catch your breath and enjoy everything the Vechtdal has to offer. There are wonderful routes through forests and along waterways. Seven kilometres away lies the “Sahara” sand drift. Around 1840, Baron van Pallandt had this area afforested to reduce further drifting. It’s a lovely spot for a picnic while you’re out cycling. Heading towards Dalfsen, you’ll also come across charming places. You may see storks, and you can pass through the lock at Vilsteren—special cycling trips that all start right from the Vechtdal Cottage.
Ommen itself is a friendly town on the river Vecht. In summer, the Ommer Bissingh takes place—a series of events in July and August with (flea) markets, a funfair, and various activities. In 1985, the National Tin Figures Museum was founded in Ommen. After renovations in 2006, the museum has been regarded as one of the finest tin figure museums in the world, bringing art and history together. Ommen is also on the Pieterpad long-distance trail.
At the Het Laer estate, there is a children’s farm—an enjoyable destination on a walk through the wooded area there. Just 300 metres from your stay is the De Lindenberg world restaurant, where you can eat very well. Ommen also has plenty of cozy places to dine.
